Dark Skies

A Dark Sky Park is a location with exceptionally dark night skies; a place where people have committed to keeping those skies dark, by controlling light pollution.

Since 2009, Galloway Forest Park has been so designated by the International Dark-Sky Association. Only the fourth Dark Sky Park in the world, and the first in the UK.

 

Named a Gold Tier park for its breath-taking and rare stargazing conditions, Galloway Forest Park offers visitors the opportunity to appreciate unpolluted skies and to see shooting stars, the Milky Way and star-studded skies amongst many other astronomic phenomena.
