Our Local Area

Situated in one of the most scenic parts of Dumfries & Galloway and, from its elevated position, Hazlefield House has outstanding views across rolling farmland and the Solway Firth to the Lake District hills, from Skiddaw in the north east, through the central Buttermere Fells and Scafell range in the south west.

The wooded grounds and lawns provide an ideal setting for the house, as well as giving it privacy and shelter. Guests can enjoy strolling in the gardens and sitting outside on long summer evenings.

The local area offers plenty of sporting and outdoor activities including numerous golf courses, excellent salmon and sea trout fishing on many of the local rivers as well as trout fishing on the numerous lochs.  Walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers are attracted to this area year-round as are the gentle ramblers and 'potterers', all of whom receive a warm welcome, whatever the weather, at Hazlefield House.

Arts & Crafts festivals are a-plenty throughout the season with trails to follow and unique objects to bring home!
